ok reading hpi the other day had an article on drag tips. if ur like me n the only strip uv seen lately came from a hot blonde handy with a greased pole this could probably come in handy Wink
1)power:
power isnt the be all and end all. an r33 gts-t complete with a free flowing 3-4 inch exhaust, a programmable management system, rising-rate fuel regulater and around 15psi boost with stock injectors can get 220rwkw which in a perfect world is enough to get an 11 sec pass

2)suspension:
stiff suspension means no squat no squat means wheelspin. so apparently sticking with the stock suspension will give you good weight transfer onto the rear wheels for a nice grippy takeoff

3)drag radials:
semi slick circuit tires are rubbish. get a good said of mickey thompson drag radials over a 15 inch rim for a nice big sidewall and u cant go wrong

4)clutch smoke:
with high grip tires the clutch is just going to smoke itself to oblivion. a decent single plate or heavy duty should do. the rule being to try and teeter ur launch just on the edge of wheel spin

5)weight:
basically. less weight more speed easy done

6)fuel loading:
you run too much fuel ur gunna weigh the car down. u run too little and ur gunna lean out when all the fuel gets pushed to the back away from the pickup with a solid launch. they reckon the the faster ur going the more fuel ur gunna use. say about over a quater to half a tank of fuel is good. once again depending on how fast ur going

7)rev limiters:
never hit the rev limiter. u hit the rev limiter u get a loss of acceleration n its all over

8)burnouts:
basically a stinkin huge burnout warms up ur tires and warm tires are stucky tires. duh

9) the launch:
if you have an auto this is pretty easy cuz u can just floor both the accelerator and brake and let the car launch itself pefectly no wheel spin no worries. if you got a manual slip it up to about 4000revs n be ready to smash second nearly straight away. if you got an awd car just bounce it off the limiter, count to 5 (apparently its important to leave it go for 5 seconds? dunno why) and just let her rip wheel spin n all. they also talk of using button clutches for this reason

10) keep ur foot down:
people see lines on the strip n they tend to take their foot off the accelerator. theres plenty of road make sure you floor it until ur well n truely done, coutn to 2, then hit the skids

i hope thats helped a little Smiley

Understeer, is when you hit the wall with the front of the car. Oversteer, is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car
Horsepower, is how fast you hit the wall, Torque, is how far you take the wall with you.

1) with that power, your car will need to weigh around 1,000kg to get into the 11's

2) a perfect launch of a car at the drags, doesnt squat, it pushes forward, soft suspension is not good for the drags, it causes the ass to drop, and wheels to lift, either causing axel tramp, or wheel spin, a firm spring, and good tyres, will see you pushing off the line, with very minimal squat

3) Semi slicks, are very good for drags, aslong as you have a decent size side wall, its good to go for say a 15" tyre as u can get a taller side wall, when you lower the air pressure in the tyre, and you launch, the side wall will crinkle, and flatten onto the track, giving you more of a tread surface on the track = more traction, low profile tyres are useless for the drags, full slicks are perfect, but realistically, the average car will tear its arse out of the car, or destroy ur clutch

4) pretty much on the right track

5) Correct, but just to add, can also = less traction, so get yourself a good set of tyres

6) Yep, pretty much heading to the track, get there with half a tank, honestly, you dont use very much, 10runs, will see you end ur night with about a 1/4 tank of fuel,

7) spot on, most cars dont make power right to redline anyway, so find out where your car makes its power to and shift a couple hundred rpm before it

8)sorry but, you can overheat a tyre, on slicks do a decent burnout enough to get them warmed up, but on street tyres, do NOT do a burnout, the rubber just balls up on your tread and actually will cause less traction when you launch

9) you cant just smash an auto off the line, you will most likely wheel spin, if you have a bit of power, stall it up, and easy the accelerator for a split second and then feed it in harder, you will get a good launch with no wheel spin, as for manual, bring it up to around 6k, and then slip your clutch a tiny bit as you launch, this will get you off the line at a decent rpm, and then it will probably drop a bit to about 4500 so genlty pop the clutch out, its a fast process, but it just takes practice, this will stop wheel spin , but still leave you with a high enough rpm off the line to move quickly

10) there are bright yellow lights on the wall after the E.T boards, this is the finish line and records your E.T (elapsted time) and then afew inches after this is the marker on the road that records ur MPH, you have a very long run off road, so keep into it past these markers, and then gently back off and ease on the brakes, and down shift, the return road is on your left at Willowbank, so be cautious of where the other car is, and prepare yourself to take this road up around o the left
