Stay on topic please people, we're discussing OS's here :/

my old AMD 3800+ AM2 single core.
I didn't know the 3800+AM2 came in single core? Even my old s939 3800+ was an X2...

Fail. It's hard for nubz. Sure some distro's have a user-friendly GUI but in terms of knowing how to configure shit and set it up right, it takes getting used to. The hardest point is that for most people "computing" means using Windows. It means they're used to the way Windows shows things. For example, there's no drive letters in Linux. If you've got 5 hard drives it still all shows up under / (root). Even if your /var or /etc are mounted on different drives.

Personally I love it though, it actually makes you think when you fix shit, it's not just random clicking on buttons to fix stupid errors made by Windows Smiley

If it comes on a system, yeah the front end is much more user friendly. But if you had to install a wifi card... hmmm. Windows would pick it up with PnP, Linux you need to have kudzu or similar installed (I think that's the one) then you've gotta find drivers that work with your kernel, or recode a similar one :s

Coming from the point of view of someone who gets called to fix everyone elses computer problems... I want people to use windows... lol.

Everything else runs PC-BSD.

Please to let me know how it goes. I'm considering it shortly cos my Vista install needs re-doing. But I'll probably wait until SP1. Knowing M$, Windows7 will be fucked and have a firewall like ricepaper until SP1.

xp home/pro are the same unless your doing big networks, pro has more networking features than home.
